Transforming Lives With Mini-Grid

The 8th Global Off-Grid Solar Forum and Expo 2024 which was held in Nairobi, Ended on a high note with over 1500 attendees, 90 Exhibitors +100 policy-makers and hundreds of investors and development actors from around the world vowed to accelerate the investment and utilization in Off-Grid Solar venture across the globe.

The forum featured powerful discussions by industry experts, policy makers and investors in the Off-grid sector. The discussions mainly showcased disruptive technologies which will unlock new and innovative partnerships that will aid in the universal electricity access, build climate resilience, power agriculture, enterprise and health.

Among the discussions was the topic of Investing in Difficult Places where it was noted that places with fragile governments has proven that it is very difficult for investors to venture because the fragile governments are not able to provide a good environment to thrive. A success story of investing in difficult places is the company known as TAMARSO which stands for Transforming Lives with Mini-Grid.

Tamarso says their main objective is bringing sustainable Energy to rural Somali through solar powered mini-grids which provide reliable affordable electricity to communities beyond the reach of traditional power grids, one of their main objective of Tamarso is focusing on coastal villages with an aim of revolutionize fishing industry for the betterment of the rural Somali people.

According to the Chief Operating Officer of Tamarso Ms Jawahir Mohammed, due to the expertise Tamarso has acquired through the years the company has embarked on expansion drive of which Kenya is the next destination, according to the Ms Mohammed Tamarso has applied to venture into Kenya and at the moment the company is under review by regulators such as Kenya Energy Regulatory Authority EPRA and the National Construction Authority NCA.
