From 12th to 15th April, the Kenyatta international Conference Nairobi hosts the most influential Homes Expo bringing together home owners, home buyers, home developers, financiers and home service providers in one venue.
Running on o theme ‘Affordable Living’ the 14 Year old Expo is the only Longstanding Expo that has maintained one single Platinum Sponsor the East Africa Portland Cement the manufactures of the Blue Triangle Cement, owing to the success the Homes Expo has shown over the years.
In line with Kenya’s President Big Four Agenda,in which Affordable Housing is one of the Pillars in the Big Agenda.This was highlighted by the Kenya’s Permanent Secretary for Housing Mr Charles Mwaura,while officially opening the Expo.
The PS announced plans by the governments to roll out the Presidents Big four Agenda,which Affordable Housing features prominently. “As we embark on the realization of affordable housing for Kenyans,we are cognizant of the predicament many home developers face particularly on land”Said the PS.
He added that “For too long land processes has been major predicament in construction of affordable housing,with complex licenses and stamps,land acquisition has slowed down this initiative”.
The PS announced the government’s intention to do away with tedious stamping and have a one-stop shop for developers. He also urged home developers to have a provision of 30% low income housing in all their projects, while at the same time giving commitment of government intention to financially cushion home developers who undertake development of low cost housing on government land in all Counties in Kenya.
“As part of Agenda Four, the government of Kenya will establish Kenya Mortgage Refinancing Body and National Housing Development Fund with a seed capital of USD 500 Million fund from a donor” Says. Although the government is pioneering the low housing scheme Re financing model to encourage private developers to venture in the low income decent housing,some developers are already hitting the road with such model.The Magnificent Riruta Gardens in Nairobi is such example of affordable Furnished Studio apartments being sold for less than Ksh.2 Million.
Qualifying this Expo,the Executive Chairman of the Universal Homes the Organizers of the Homes Expo,Mr.Dan Ojijo the Expo over the years has exceeded the obvious expectations of home buyers and developers. “This Expo attracts International players to Kenya as a hub ti East and Central Africa, while at the same time acting as the stimulus in the provision of affordable and decent housing to Kenyans in tandem with governments Big Four agenda “Said Mr Ojijo.
Supporting his sentiments the Director of Homes Expo Mrs Maureen Ojijo opines that by 2025 Africa will signify business opportunities worth USD 5.6 Trillion, that why the Homes Expo has over the years attracted investments in real estate globally.
