Kenya Revenue Authority honored its top taxpayers for 2018 during the Annual Taxpayers’ Day and Luncheon at The Kenya International Convention Center, Nairobi.
The event which is organized every year to honor distinguished taxpayers has been major contributory effect to make Kenyans pay their taxes for economic self reliant over the years since the Award was introduced.
The ceremony was officiated by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury Mr Henry Rotich, KRA Board Chairman Amb. (Dr) Francis Muthaura, KRA Commissioner General John Njiriani,was preceded by the Launch of the Transit Monitoring Unit and the ope-rationalization of the Regional Electronic Cargo Tracking System RECTS,by the President at the Times Tower,the headquarters of KRA.
The highlight of the event will be the launch of the KRA Integrated Scanner Command and Control Centre which is a web based integrated solution that assimilates all KRA scanners with an aim of monitoring their operations. The launch of the Center is an important milestone that will help improve Customs detection capacity and help secure the borders.
The Center will increase efficiency and create synergy in image analysis, leading to increased effectiveness of non-intrusive inspection of cargo which will boost trade facilitation.
The Luncheon was a culmination of the Taxpayers’ Month which kicked off on 1st October, 2018. KRA has over the years dedicated one month to its taxpayers by carrying out activities geared towards honoring and appreciating taxpayers for their invaluable contribution towards revenue collection.
The activities held under the banner of Taxpayers’ Month also act as a platform to encourage citizens to pay taxes for the country’s economic development.
