The Law Society of Kenya has entered into a Medicare Cover with Octagon Africa in what is billed to be significant move to enhance healthcare for its members, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
The signing ceremony at Panafric Hotel Nairobi was led by President Faith Odhiambo and accompanied by CEO Florence Muturi.
The Wakili Medicover scheme an initiative, rolled out in partnership with Octagon Africa , aims to address the often-overlooked health needs of advocates.
Speqking during the launch,LSK President Odhiambo highlighted a common challenge faced by legal professionals. “advocates who have practiced in Kenya for a considerable time would understand how easily their well-being can become collateral damage” Said LSK President Faith Odhiambo added “this is due to being deeply engrossed in the pursuit of justice, managing client deadlines, accumulating CPD points, and dealing with unpaid fee notes”
The LSK President also pointed out that while advocates tirelessly defend their clients’ rights daily, it’s rare for them to prioritize their own right to good health.
According to the signed agreement between Law Society of Kenya and Octagon Africa Wakili Medicover scheme is more than just an insurance policy; it’s a profound statement. It signifies the Law Society of Kenya’s commitment to valuing not only advocates’ intellectual contributions but also their lives.
LSK President affirmed that this scheme is a way of communicating to every advocate—from the most experienced “silk” to the newest junior at the magistrates’ court—that they matter.
