Inaugural International Seed Conference Kicks Off In Nairobi

The Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) has hosted the 1st International Seed Quality Conference the first international seed quality conference.
The Conference which is themed ‘Seed Quality Assurance and Technological Advances for Climate Change Adaptation towards Food and Nutritional Security’

While giving the welcoming address at Conference, KEPHIS Managing Director Theophilus Mutui while Welcoming the delegates said KEPHIS has embarked on a transformational cog in quality assurances particularly for seeds since its inception 25 years ago “Seed has always been an important factor in Agricultural production in terms of being the basic and most important ingredient input for sustainable growth in agriculture” Said the MD

Officially Opening the Conference the Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Andrew Karanja lauded the Plant Inspectorate institution in coming up with the Seed International Conference, Stating that as a Cabinet Secretary he was glad that his maiden official function since he was appointed as Cabinet Secretary was at KEPHIS.

“I’m extremely excited to visit KEPHIS on my first visit as CS to officiate a very important event which is a conference on Seed and quality thereafter” Said CS Njuguna.
The Cabinet Secretary added that moving forward no effort will be spared in eliminating illegal seeds while at the same time ensuring the highest seed quality which will result in bountiful harvest by our farmers.

 

The Four Day conference seeks to provide seed actors with an opportunity to share their experiences and achievements and acquire new knowledge about seed quality.
