HIKVISION LAUNCHES SAFE CAMPUS AND SMART EDUCATION IN KENYA

By Thomas Ochieng : In a bid to keep students safe, The Universities in Kenya have embraced technology to have safe spaces to learn in a smart way. This was the main agenda when HIKVISION brought together the Vice Chancellors of Universities in Kenya for safe learning spaces in universities launch.

Speaking during the launch, the Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs Dr.Aurelia Rono said that in Kenya many education institutions are turning to the latest digital technologies and smart education solutions in particular. “With AI-powered solutions, real time alerts can be triggered when students are in a dangerous situation, or if a stranger or other unauthorized visitors attempts to enter the campus” Said Dr Rono.

According to the Managing Director of HIKVISION Kenya, “maximization of student safety and wellbeing on campus, education institutions of all types and sizes are deploying AI-powered solutions from Hikvision the integration of AI security and surveillance system including perimeter protection, comprehensive campus access control, an innovative school bus monitoring solution, people counting, and anti-bullying is the best way of provision of safe learning space in a smart way in Kenya.

On his part the Vice Chancellor Embu University who is also the Chairperson of Universities Vice Chancellors in Kenya Professor Daniel Mugendi said that Using these solutions, education institutions can improve student safety on campus and respond faster to any incidents – providing the required help and support immediately.

“The reports that are generated can enable management teams to understand which parts of the campus are popular and which are not which, in turn, can help them evolve student communications or even adapt the campus accordingly” said Professor Mugendi.

Professor Mugendi added that such reports can also ensure compliance with fire and evacuation protocols, while also minimizing the risk of injury and the other potential risks associated with crowding in small areas.
