As Kenya heads to Zimbabwe,Coach Will Webster has carried with him a squad of mostly second tier Shujaa players, though eight of them have accrued World Series experience.
Frank Wanyama who has not had much of playing time for the first team this season is the most experienced in the squad as well as Augustine Lugonzo. Also named is the Menengai Oilers duo of Erick Ombassa and Samuel Ng’ethe who have been part of the first team this season.
Webster has also handed an opportunity to the Impala Saracens duo of Mark Kwemoi and Ian Minjire. Minjire has been part of the Kenya Sevens training squad this season but is yet to be named in any travelling 13.
Also named are two debutants who will drape the Kenyan jersey for the first time, the BlakBlad duo of Levi Amunga and Brian Wahinya.
They will open their campaign on Saturday morning with a match against False Bay at 11.06am before playing Zambia B at 2.24pm, Lesotho at 4.36pm and Zimbabwe at 6.14pm.
Pool A features African champions Uganda, Zambia A, Zimbabwe’s Goshawks, Zambezi Steelers and Spartans.
Kenya who are playing the tournament for the first time are in Pool B and will square out with hosts Zimbabwe, South African club side False Bay, Lesotho and Zambia’s second string side.
