The public transport sector players in Kenya got a boost from the Spouse of Kenya’s Deputy President H.E Pastor Dorcas Rigathi when they benefitted from Pastor Dorcas Philanthropy gesture in form of Free Medical check-up.
Speaking while launching the medical Camp H.E Dorcas Rigathi called upon organizations to create time and empathy for critical sector like the matatu industry “We have had over 200 doctors set aside for us for a 2-day camp and we have been able to screen over 2000 matatu workers and this would not have been possible without the support from the office of the Spouse of the deputy president ” Said Pastor Dorcas.

The matatu crew members were diagnosed with various diseases ranging from respiratory diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure and eye sight problems. Over 200 doctors from various hospitals in Kenya attended to the matatu drivers and conductors as the C.E.O of Federation of Drivers and Conductors in Kenya (FEDCO)says

The chairman of Super metro Sacco Nelson Mwangi was able to recognized that this was the first medical camp of its kind since independence,
“This kind of event has not been seen particularly in our industry. It’s the first one of its kind since may be 1963 and our industry is one of the industries that have been neglected so much by the former governments, but now we are very grateful because we have seen the Kenya Kwanza government through Her Excellency has now started recognizing the role that we play in the economy of this county”
The head of clinical services in Nairobi County Geoffrey Tumaini mentioned that many drivers had eye sight problems which probably contribute too many road accidents witnessed on our roads. One driver had a serious eyes sight issues and had to be referred to Mama Lucy hospital for surgery
Dr. Elizabeth Wamwea from Karen Hospital encourage Kenyans to be going for health checkups and clinics to know their health status which will help curb serious diseases like kidney failure
Through her initiative, the Spouse of the Deputy President Her Excellency Pastor Dorcas Rigathi is committed to dignify the lives of the vulnerable which include boy child, widows and orphans and people living with disabilities. Pastor Dorcas has held such medical camps in various counties including Muranga, Kajiado and Bomet counties.
