Nairobi Overseas Job Fair Opens In Nairobi

The government of Kenya has embarked on strategic partnerships with Private sector to have a well coordinated Labour Migration in the aim of creating job opportunities for the bulging youth population in Kenya.

Speaking during the launch of the engagement Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Hon.Alfred Mutua said the Government of Kenya was committed to creating opportunities for all Kenyans, both at home and abroad “labor migration is not about forcing anyone to leave motherland, rather it’s about empowering those who choose to explore opportunities abroad” Said CS Mutua. Adding that if one makes a decision to work abroad, the government wills assit the process.

His sentiments were supported by the Permanent Secretary of Labor who said the government has plans to develop a mobile phone platform to assist in distress call among Kenyans who face difficulties abroad as migrant workers.

Representing the Private Sector, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce KNCCI National Director who is also the Chairperson of National Labour Migration Committee Ms Cynthia Kamau stressed the importance of COLM which can be used to orient out migration to maximize the outcomes for the migrants “ the COO Model platform will track the entire recruitment process, ensuring transparency and accountability because it will capture details like contracts, wages and agents verification thus reducing exploitation risk” said Ms Kamau the KNCCI National Chairperson labour Migration Committee.

Director Cynthia Kamau added that the aim of adhering to Certificate of Labour Migration COLM is that it will document all key details of workers or immigrant contract including agents, wages and job duration. “This conformity certification ensures full transparency, provides safety net and hold all stakeholders accountable” Said KNCCI Director Cynthia Kamau.
