Nairobi New Ring Road,Outering Road to get Footbridges after Public Outcry

Following widespread public outcry on accessibility on OuterRing Road following many accidents on that newly constructed Super Highway,Kenya Urban Roads Board KURA, has issued a Statement that work has commenced on construction of Foot bridges along that road.

In a Statement issued by KURA,footbridges construction contract to be undertaken by the Chinese Firm Sinohydro Tianjin Engineering Limited, is expected to install 11 footbridges at a cost of Sh880 million.

Although the Outering Road is constructed according to agreed standards, the issue of non motorized access lanes and footbridges along the road has attracted widespread condemnation by the residents of East of Nairobi where the Ring-Road lies.

To show preparedness and commitment,KURA says the have conducted research and the points where the bridges would be set up have been identified. The location of the bridge would consider the population of people crossing the road and points out where the foundation would be best for the footbridges.

The 13-km highway runs from Airgate Center, formerly known as Taj Mall, on North Airport Road to Allsops in Ruaraka. Kura’s statement also said the footbridges would be placed at strategic locations along the entire length of the road.
